For your information

by Becky Myers -

The past year has been one of many changes for Training Division and all of our students, but no area has perhaps been more dynamic than that of travel to the US and more specifically, returning to Canada for our hundreds of Canadian students.

Training Division has been deemed "essential" for entry into the US and at the current time, does require a NEGATIVE Covid-19 PCR test result to cross the border by air or land.  Entry by air is still the best through Toronto, Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver.

Return to Canada for most students has been easy as well.  We provide the COVID-19 testing on the second last day of camp allowing students to fly home on either the final Friday after the state exam or even Saturday if they wish.  Most Canadian students arrive at Canada Customs, are deemed essential travelers and have been exempt from arrival testing, hotel stays, fees, or quarantine.  However not all students are granted the same exemptions from their individual customs agent and have had to participate in the landing testing and hotel stay while awaiting results.  Although Training Division is in no way involved in these decisions or processes, we feel it is important to communicate to students that this, on rare occasions, has happened and is possible.

Most students have weighed the possible complications of travel with the benefit of completing certification and applying for firefighter positions in the near future, and for most, getting on with a department will be well worth the minor travel inconvenience that usually isn't even an issue.  For others however, they may choose to participate in one of the Kimberley or Surrey, BC camps to complete their training.  We do still have spots open for May, June, July and beyond.  There is an additional cost for delivery of camps in Canada, and that cost is likely more than any Covid travel complication, but we leave that choice to each student and are just grateful to be in a position to offer opportunities in both countries.

If you are interested in a BC camp, please contact Brad@smartfire.ca directly for more information and date availability.  If Texas still is your preferred camp, that is a great choice and we'll see you there.

Thank you,

COVID testing for US arrivals

by Becky Myers -

Posting from the CDC website:

To reduce introduction and spread of new variants of SARS-CoV-2, CDC issued an Order pdf icon[PDF – 9 pages] effective January 26, 2021. It requires all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested for COVID-19 infection no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. COVID testing for Canadians

by Becky Myers -

We are aware of the new requirements put in place by the Canadian government for all returning residents to Canada to be tested for COVID 72 hours prior to returning. We are working on a solution/option for our students to get this taken care while you are at boot camp.

We will keep you posted as we work on an answer for you. Stay safe and healthy!

COVID-19 Texas Campus Precautions

Our First Responder family comes first! The TrainingDivsion.com team is closely following the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and we want you to know that your safety is our top priority. With your well-being in mind, we have provided our staff with helpful guidelines and information provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This information details how to identify COVID-19 symptoms and mitigate its transmission, as well as guidance on how to handle and report suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. In addition, we have trained and equipped our team with access to industry-standard cleaning and disinfecting supplies to achieve the highest standards of cleanliness, disinfection and hygiene for all areas throughout our Texas campus.

As we continue to monitor this ever-changing situation closely, our dedicated and experienced team is focusing its efforts on the safety and well-being of all our students and staff – while continuing to deliver you a great experience here at boot camp. As new information arises, we are keeping the integrity of our company core values in mind with every decision we make going forward. We understand you have some decisions to make also and encourage you to consider the guidance provided by the WHO and CDC to make the right travel choices for yourself.

TrainingDivision.com boot camps will currently continue as scheduled alongside the parameters listed below. Here are the steps we’re taking to protect our staff and students:

Our Texas Campus:

•             We are cleaning commonly used areas more often.

•             Sanitizing restrooms, kitchen, classrooms and dorms more frequently and restocking with supplies, including soap, disinfectant spray, paper towels and hand sanitizer.

•             Adding extra hand sanitizer stations and disinfectant spray throughout the facility.

•             Partnering with our suppliers to replenish high-demand preparedness products.

•             Following best practices for safe food handling, as always.

For Our Staff and Students:

•             Encouraging our staff/students to closely monitor their health and well-being.

•             Encouraging proper hand washing and use of hand sanitizer (posters with directions will be installed in main areas of facility).

•             Asking our staff/students to stay home if they or someone in their household present COVID-19 symptoms.

•             Implementing an internal policy for any person on campus presenting COVID-19 symptoms.

Thank you for choosing TrainingDivision.com as your source for First Responder certification training. We appreciate your trust in our organization and staff!

Respectfully,
